I do not know this country, this continent. Every bit of red earth is new, as are the smiles and warmth of its people. I came for work, but I will leave having made more friends than money. And I’m OK with that.

Limpopo National Park is a decade old, a former hunting concession that only recently became a protected area. It border Kruger Park in South Africa, one of the most famous parks in Africa.
Abukar is Limpopo’s warden. He is friendly, quiet and knowledgable. His work now is relocating the last of the families that lives within the park to outside its borders and catching the poachers who cross the border into Kruger to kill rhinoceros.
Majka Burhardt, a professional climber and writer, worked with the park on investigating possible adventure recreation opportunities within Limpopo.
Scorpions, Black Mambas, poisonous spiders, stinging insects and plants with 2-inch thorns are common in Limpopo’s bush. The larger animals, like elephants and lions, are rare but increasing.
Nearby Kruger is an astounding place, with cheetah and zebra right off the road.
